STEYNSBURG PORK ABATTOIR – HARRISMITH

The Danish Pork Industry is the world’s leader in pig production, pig genetics and optimized production methods. Steynsburg Pork Abattoir is a state of the art production facility, with a capacity of 6000 pigs per week, fitted with components monitored and operated remotely from Denmark.
Blueberri was proud to be the appointed Project Manager of this world class facility which is the first of its kind in South Africa, utilising Danish production methods in a high tech environment which has introduced innovative processing and production methods to the South African pork industry
Blueberri was responsible for providing a fully operational, compliant facility to the Client, which required involvement in Pre-Construction, Construction, and Machinery/Slaughter Line Installation Processes, ensuring that the correct teams were appointed to effectively install the facility’s high tech imported products
Our Role
Machinery, electronics, cold-room refrigeration equipment and all slaughter line components were supplied by Danish company TorNordic and imported from Denmark. All walls and ceilings throughout the facility are constructed from prefabricated sandwich insulated panels, which together with all Isodoors, were supplied by InCold and imported from Italy.
This required an action-oriented, hands-on approach to manage and co-ordinate both the local teams and international Consultants and Suppliers in order to successfully complete this Project. In addition
Blueberri worked closely with the Department of Agriculture & Rural Development (DARD), ensuring that the Danish methods and processes conform with South African Standards and Regulations.
